Lidded Ceramic Tureen with Lion Finial, Blue, Red and Gilt Floral Decoration

– Covered tureen with two loop handles and a figural seated lion finial, its paw resting on a stump.
– Hand-painted in underglaze blue, iron red and gilt with flowers, blossoming branches, blue rockwork and a fence.
– The lid has a scrolling floral center and radiating panels, including gilt panels, lattice patterns and a manji (swastika) diaper pattern.
– A floral spray is painted in the interior well.
– The underside of the bowl has a glazed center with an unglazed foot ring. No maker's mark is visible on the base.
– Quantity: 1 tureen with lid.
– Condition: dark lines run across the interior well and up the sides, consistent with cracks or an old repair. The interior glaze is stained.
– The finial has losses to the stump support and small chips or flakes on the lion's leg.
– Gilt and enamel are worn, most visibly on the paneled band around the lower body.
– The unglazed foot ring is grimy. There is a brown spot and a line on the base.
– Small paper sticker on the lid.
