Item description:

American quartersawn oak bow-front commode (washstand), circa 1900–1915. The shaped, overhanging top sits over a bowed case with two drawers, a pair of cabinet doors, and a full-width bottom drawer. The drawer and door fronts are curved and veneered in quartersawn oak with strong tiger-flake figure, and the moldings between the sections follow the curve of the case. Rounded columns run up the front corners and end in carved lion's paw feet. The sides are paneled in quartersawn oak, and the back feet are plain. The original keyhole escutcheons are still on the upper and lower drawers. It's a solid piece that's ready to refinish. | | Condition: | | Top: The original finish is badly worn, flaking and water-damaged, with large areas of bare wood. It needs a full refinish. | Hardware: Only 3 wooden knobs remain. The other knob holes are empty, and the bottom drawer has no pulls. No keys. | Case: Scratches, scuffs and finish wear overall, with white marks and wear on the side panel. Light wear and scuffing on the paw feet. | Bottom drawer: Wear and some edge lifting on the drawer bottom, plus general age wear and grime inside. | No major structural damage shows in the photos. The figured veneer on the front looks largely intact. | | Dimensions: 46"W x 22"D x 37¾"H | | Bidders are responsible for judging condition from the photos provided.
