Item description:

An exceptional and highly unique piece of cold-war military militaria, this vintage souvenir artwork is hand-painted on fine silk fabric. The composition features a beautifully detailed Vought F-8 Crusader supersonic jet fighter bearing US Navy tail code “AD 149221” from squadron VF-174, banking sharply over a naval task force. In the waters below, a highly detailed aircraft carrier (hull number 43, representing the USS Coral Sea) and an escort destroyer cruise through deep blue waters. The reverse of the wooden backing board retains its sharp original purple ink provenance stamp reading: “Fuji Portraits Studio, Mr. Y. Murata, 771 Ayase-Machi Koza-Gun, Kanagawa-Ken Japan,” indicating this was custom-commissioned by a deployed American serviceman stationed in Japan during the Vietnam War era.
Medium/Style: Original oil or gouache painting on stretched silk fabric.
Origin/Studio: Fuji Portraits Studio (Kanagawa-Ken, Japan), mid-20th century.
Dimensions: Visible artwork window measures approximately 14″ W x 19″ H. Outer frame edges measure approximately 21″ W x 26″ H.
Condition Report: Excellent vintage condition; the silk substrate remains taut with vibrant, unfaded coloration and no visible tearing. The protective matte board shows slight, uniform age-toning. Wood frame exhibits minimal, light surface wear.
Framing & Hardware: Housed behind protective clear glass in an elegant bevel-edged wood frame with a polished faux-tortoiseshell or burl finish. The reverse features a sturdy plywood backing board secured by metal turn-buttons and an integrated heavy twine hanging assembly.
