Body Design: Large rectangular splint basket featuring a tight basketweave body in multi-toned brown wood splits accented with continuous horizontal bands of forest green and salmon red.
Lid & Handles: Features a smooth, dual-hinged wooden fiberboard split lid that opens from either side. Equipped with two thick, molded yellow-tan plastic drop handles secured to the wooden rim tabs by steel rivets.
Interior Configuration: Lined with a smooth yellow-lacquered fiberboard shell. Includes a matching removable upper fiberboard utility tray fitted with dual metal over-rim hanging brackets and a central round finger pull-hole.
Condition Report
Woven Splints: The main body remains tightly woven, rigid, and structurally secure. There are zero broken or splintered main horizontal reeds, and the vertical wooden corner support straps are firmly intact.
Lid & Interior: The wood-grain top shows beautiful vintage character with minor edge rubbing and small storage surface scuffs. The interior compartment is exceptionally clean, showing light, natural discoloration rings on the bottom surface from age.
Hardware & Labels: The metal hinges are tight and free of heavy rust or bending. The original retro paper factory decal on the inner tray reads “Hawkeye America’s Finest Hamper – Burlington Basket Co.” and remains largely intact with typical edge fraying.
