Item description:

Description: A primitive two-piece collection of 19th or early 20th-century American utilitarian stoneware vessels. The lot features a classic cylindrical two-tone whiskey or moonshine jug styled with a dark brown Albany-slip glazed shoulder over a salt-glazed cream body and finished with an attached loop strap handle. Accompanying the jug is a low, wide-mouth cylindrical butter or food preservation crock covered inside and out in a dark brown Albany-type slip glaze finish.

Dimensions: The two-tone moonshine jug stands approximately 11.75 inches high to the spout by 7.25 inches in diameter. The dark brown crock measures 9.5 inches in diameter across the outer rim and stands 5.25 inches in height.

Markings: Both pieces feature plain, unmarked unglazed flat bases which is historically accurate for early Midwest folk utility wares. The design attributes, rim style, and clay composition point to historic regional manufacturing by firms such as the Robinson Ransbottom Pottery Company of Roseville, Ohio.

Condition: Authentic antique condition with noticeable structural flaws. The two-tone jug features a clear, tight fracture line splitting completely across the upper curve of the attached loop strap handle, along with a secondary fracture line developing near the lower handle anchor joint; the main body and spout remain stable. The dark brown crock remains structurally solid with zero large body cracks, showing original manufacturing glaze pops, surface pitting, and standard shelf-wear abrasions along its unglazed base perimeter.
