Condition Overview
Cast Iron Kettle: The heavy iron kettle is physically intact across its upper rim but shows advanced weathering and a heavily oxidized orange-brown rust patina throughout the interior and exterior walls. The three molded bottom feet are sound, though the undercarriage basin displays severe layer flaking, deep pitting, and a localized rust-through hole near the edge of the base. One side loop tab retains its loose iron ring, while the opposite tab ring is missing.
Wooden Stave Barrel: The tall barrel is structurally stable with its tight vertical wood slats and solid bottom surface intact. The dark wood staves exhibit natural grain shrinkage, minor cosmetic splitting, and a light layer of storage dust. The top and bottom flat metal rim hoops show uniform surface rust, and the central twisted wire bands remain firmly positioned to keep the cylindrical frame secure.
