Model: Model 1855 Musket Rifle
Caliber: .58 Cal
Action: Precussion
Barrel: 40
Bore: Dark
Condition: Good
The U.S. Model 1855 Springfield is a historic .58 caliber rifled musket. It was the first U.S. military longarm designed to fire the conical Mini ball. An original or 1857-dated reproduction from the Springfield Armory features an iconic Maynard tape priming system. It provided U.S. regular army troops with significantly increased accuracy and an effective range of over 1,000 yards. Only about 47,000 M-1855 rifle-muskets were produced at the Springfield Armory between 1857 and 1861 before being replaced by the simplified Model 1861. It has the clear Eagle and U.S. Springfield stamp on the lockplate, straight walnut stock with brass end cap, notch rear and blade front sights, steel buttplate, and sling swivels. Missing the ram rod. In its original patina with the usual scratches, dings, and chips in the stock. Please see photos.
