The HK SL8-1 is the semi automatic sporting rifle based on the German army’s G36. Gas operated short stroke piston rotary locking bolt operating system. Cocking system is completely ambidextrous. Ambidextrous safety & selector. Length of stock & cheekpiece are adj. in length to suit the operator. Carry handle style top rail system provides 13″ of mounting surface for optics, 20� length barrel provides an excellent balance between maintaining optimal muzzle velocity for the .223 Remington cartridge and ensuring the rifle remains manageable. A longer barrel generally allows for more complete powder burn, translating to higher velocities and, consequently, a flatter trajectory and extended effective range compared to shorter barrels. Free-Floating Design is a cornerstone of modern rifle accuracy. A free-floating barrel is one that does not contact the rifle’s stock or handguard at any point beyond the receiver. This design eliminates any external pressure points or vibrations that could subtly influence barrel harmonics and distort bullet trajectory as the barrel heats up or flexes during firing. The result is unparalleled consistency from shot to shot, leading to tighter groups. The “bull” or heavy barrel profile signifies a thicker, more robust barrel.
