The Norinco MAK-90 (Modified AK-1990) is a Chinese-manufactured, semi-automatic rifle based on the AK-47 platform that was widely imported into the United States between 1990 and 1994. It was specifically created to comply with the 1989 U.S. import bans by converting military-style firearms into a “sporterized” configuration. Despite these regulatory modifications, it is highly regarded by enthusiasts as one of the smoothest and most durable factory AK-pattern rifles ever produced. To pass U.S. customs during the import ban era, several standard military features were removed or altered. Replacing the traditional independent pistol grip and shoulder stock with a one-piece wooden thumbhole stock. Built on either a stamped steel receiver (available in straight/square back or slant back profiles) or a heavier milled receiver. Stamped variants feature a robust 1.5mm thick receiver, compared to the standard 1mm found on European AKs. Because the Clinton administration finalized a complete ban on Norinco firearms in 1994 (followed by subsequent trade sanctions in 2003), supply is strictly limited. This example is tip top!
