Manufactured in 1917 based on factory serialization records, this classic John Browning-designed carbine features a compact 20-inch round barrel layout chambered in the flat-shooting, vintage .25-20 Winchester Center Fire cartridge. This early 20th-century field rifle is configured with a traditional front blade sight, a dovetailed rear ladder sight, and an original curved steel buttplate capping its walnut furniture. Mechanically, the action remains remarkably smooth, and the dark bore retains clear, visible rifling. The factory bluing has gracefully aged into an even, honest gray patina over the metalwork, showing character consistent with its era of production. Noting its structural condition, the wood displays two minor hairline cracks in the buttstock near the trigger assembly, the original receiver saddle ring is missing, and a hole was previously drilled through the rear receiver markings on the word "Winchester." Overall, it represents a highly authentic piece of American frontier heritage presenting in good condition for its age. Please use the photos as final judgment before bidding.
