Manufactured in 1997 as per serial number. The Stainless N-Frame Model 629-4 first introduced in 1993 and phased out in 1997 for the dash-5. The 629-4 variant is widely regarded as the best “shooter” engineering change in the Model 629 lineup. It combines structural modernization with traditional manufacturing methods. It features the fully implemented factory “Endurance Package” (hardened frames, elongated cylinder notches, and bolt modifications) designed to handle steady diets of full-house .44 Magnum loads without shooting loose. It contains traditional forged internal parts (including the trigger and hammer) rather than the Metal Injection Molded (MIM) components introduced in later variations. The dash-4 introduced a frame that was factory drilled and tapped under the rear sight for clean scope mounting, a change to a top strap rear sight leaf, and a redesigned thumbpiece. This 629-4 is considered the “Classic” model because of the full length underlug barrel which helps to reduce muzzle flip and recoil. It has a 6 shot fluted cylinder, fixed front blade and rear adjustable sight, case hardened target trigger and hammer, and a set of smooth factory Bear Hug grips. Includes a set of factory rubber finger groove textured grips and a factory S&W polymer case. Please see photos.
