This iconic British military sidearm, renowned for its rugged reliability and use throughout both World War I and World War II. It is a top-break, double-action revolver that fires a heavy, low-velocity .455-caliber bullet and has a six-round capacity. The Mark VI was adopted in 1915, during the First World War, as the standard British military sidearm. It remained in service with British and Commonwealth forces until it was officially superseded by a lighter .38 caliber revolver in 1932, though it still saw action during World War II. It was praise the revolver’s formidable nature in close quarters, due to its large .455-caliber slug which offered significant “knockdown power”. Its robust construction meant it was less sensitive to rough handling and trench conditions than other pistols of the era. Still retaining its original blued finish, and military proof and inspection marks and checkered bakelite grips. tTis example looks like the cylinder was shaved. A shaved cylinder on a Webley .455 Mk VI means the back of the cylinder was milled to allow the use of .45 ACP rounds with moon clips, a common modification for US imports when .455 ammo was scarce, but standard .45 ACP is too powerful; safe shooting requires very light, low-pressure hand loads, often using black powder or specialized reduced-power ammo, as factory .45 loads can damage the gun.
