The CZ 52 (military designation vz. 52) is a roller-locked, single-action semi-automatic pistol developed in Czechoslovakia during the early Cold War. Produced between 1952 and 1954 by Ceská Zbrojovka, approximately 200,000 units were manufactured to serve as the standard Czechoslovak military sidearm. It remained in service for three decades until it was replaced by the vz. 82 in 1982. The pistol was originally designed by brothers Jan and Jaroslav Kratochvíl to be chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum with a double-action/single-action trigger system. However, intense political and logistical pressure from the Soviet Union forced a redesign. The final military production model was modified into a single-action-only configuration chambered for the high-velocity Soviet 7.62x25mm Tokarev cartridge. The defining characteristic of the CZ 52 is its unique roller-locked short-recoil operating system. While most handguns utilize a tilting-barrel Browning design, the CZ 52 uses two small rollers and a locking cam to delay the slide’s rearward travel. This mechanical setup is highly reminiscent of a miniaturized German MG42 machine gun operating system. It is in its original gray patina with fixed sights, bakelite grips, bottom heel magazine release, and a thumb safety. Includes 2 – 8rnd magazines, a military leather flap holster, and a cleaning rod. It has signs of use. Please see photos.
